Royal Plantation Ocho Rios
Exclusive boutique resort with 2 beaches, all-suite accommodations – A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, this independently-operated resort caters to adult clientele. Built on a small bluff on the island’s north coast, the colonial-style estate claims the 2 private coves it overlooks. Stone walkways and fountains adorn the grounds, and the property occupies 17 acres of well-manicured tropical greenery. This is a popular holiday spot among celebrities.
Accommodations: Suites are housed within 2 main wings that extend from the main building, and are available in 7 categories. Each has a view of the ocean, and is outfitted with Italian linens, custom-crafted mahogany furniture, 4-post king-sized beds, and a sitting and dining area. Amenities include air-conditioning, in-room safe, in-room bar, satellite TV, and telephone. The majority have balconies and in-room Jacuzzis. Marble baths include plush robes, slippers, and luxury bath amenities. TIP: Corner suites have larger balconies and larger baths.
Dining & Entertainment: All meals are served a la carte, and are prepared by a staff of European-trained chefs. The wine cellar is stocked with an extensive selection of international vintages, and a Sommelier is on staff to help with pairings and recommendations. The resort is home to 3 restaurants, as well as Jamaica’s only caviar and champagne bar. La Terraza has a full breakfast menu, Caribbean specialties for lunch, and Italian entrees for dinner. Le Papillion is a French restaurant serving choice meat and fresh seafood dishes. The Royal Café is a casual beachside spot open for lunch, offering traditional Jamaican light fare.
Recreation: Beach butlers are a mere nod away as you relax on the sugar-white sand, ready to supply you with another cold drink, a chilled towel, or a cucumber eye cooling. There is a freshwater pool and a Jacuzzi. Active guests will enjoy a 24-hour fitness center, tennis courts lit for night play, and a variety of water sports like kayaking, snorkeling, and windsurfing. The 18-hole golf course owned by the resort is considered the best in Jamaica. Indulge yourself at a spa that is both a member of The Leading Spas of the World and a recipient of the European 5-Star Diamond Award. Local excursions include a trip to Dunn’s River Falls, a visit to a dolphin cove, and river tubing.
What to expect: Royal Plantation only accepts guests 18 and older, as singles, couples, and groups. The hotel replicates the British colonial grandeur that once dominated Jamaica, also offering 21st-century conveniences. The grand ambience begins at a formal fountain garden outside the entrance and continues through an orchid-festooned lobby featuring a green-and-white-checkered marble floor. The resort’s ocean frontage includes twin beaches separated by a dock and furnished with lounge chairs and umbrellas.
Amenity highlights: On site, one beach includes a café/bar, and sunbathers there need only stick a flag in the sand to summon food-and-drink service. Shaded by almond trees, the other beach features water sports. Located on a terrace outside the lobby, a pool, sundeck, and two-level Red Lane® spa spacious enough for 24. All suites provide panoramic Caribbean views. As part of the Royal Plan, guests have unlimited green fees and and transfers at Upton Golf course.
Guests who book under the Royal Plan also have full, complimentary access to the facilities and entertainment of Sandals and Beaches properties within the Ocho Rios area (including meals, however transfers to/from other resorts are available at their own cost.). The Royal Plantation concierge can make dining, etc. arrangements for guests upon request, and, upon confirmation of plans, guests will be given an access card for the specific Sandals/Beaches hotel of their choosing.
Located in a secluded courtyard, three air-conditioned buildings with weathered-wood-shingle roofs house a health spa, a beauty salon, and a fitness center furnished with free weights and cardio and weight-training machines. The health spa includes complimentary men’s and women’s saunas and steam rooms and, for fees and the Red Lane® spa offers hydrotherapy, body treatments, facials, and massage. Drinks, including champagne, and tea, are served during treatments. A full menu of hydrotherapy treatments, facials and massages is available at the Red Lane® Spa.
Entertainment includes jazz sessions, reggae dancing, a Jamaican folkloric show, a steel band, fire dances, and a weekly beach party. A pianist plays on the terrace during afternoon tea, and a calypso band performs on the beach each afternoon. Available for fees at the resort’s tour desk are excursions to attractions such as reggae icon Bob Marley’s birthplace, the Coyaba River Garden, Dunn’s River Falls, and the Martha Brae for river rafting.
Other amenities include complimentary welcome cocktail, champagne and chilled towel upon arrival, afternoon tea for all guests as well as complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Additionally, martinis are 50% off during Martini Friday – featured every Friday between 6 – 8 PM. Guests also enjoy complimentary pillow menu, beach butler, non-motorized water sports, and an invitation to the General Manager’s cocktail party with full open bar.
Round-trip transfers from Kingston or Montego Bay airports are included in the rate for both European Plan and Royal Plan guests. After clearing Customs, guests must exit the arrival area to the right where taxi drivers holding Royal Plantation signs await guests’ arrival.
Guests must provide their arrival flight details at the time of reservation in order to receive the complimentary transfer. Check-in for Air Jamaica flights is available at the resort.

Deluxe Oceanfront Suite
Deluxe Oceanfront Suite. Located in the West wing only. These suites have king bedrooms, French door type windows and are closest to the center of the resort. Suite has no balcony.
Governor Genrals’s Oceanfront Suite
With more than 1,500 square feet of spacious living, this suite is the exact same at the both the Oceanfront Two Bedroom Suite categories suite. This suite features enormous views of the ocean from all bedrooms as well as two massive balconies.
Honeymoon Grande Luxe Veranda Oceanfront Suite
Showcasing a view of the white-sand beach this spacious suite has half canopy mahogany bed, marble bathroom complete with whirlpool tub and tumble stone shower, fully stocked bar and Caribbean accented decor. Suites feature a 178 square foot verandah and are located on floors 1-3 in the west wing.
Honeymoon Concierge Grandluxe Oceanfront
Honeymoon Grande Luxe Oceanfront Suite. Large bedroom with king bed, sitting area, and large bathroom with separate shower and jacuzzi tub. The suite also has a balcony.
Luxury Oceanfront Suite
Luxury Oceanfront Suite. Suites are located in the West wing on the first through third floors. One king bed or two double beds. Suites feature a jacuzzi and have French door type window. There is no balcony.
Plantation Oceanfront One Bedroom Suite
Honeymoon Plantation Oceanfront One Bedroom Suite. The suite has a king bedroom with a balcony, living room and a private roman tub spa with French windows allowing you to overlook the stunning views.
Premium Oceanfront Suite
Premium Oceanfront Suite. Located in both the East and West wings on the first through third floors. All rooms have king beds and French door type windows, but no balcony.
Prime Minister Suite
These expansive 2,100 sq. ft. suites are the height of Caribbean splendor. Guests are greeted by the checker-board, marble foyer and lead past the adorable “plantation-styled” powder room, past the fully-stocked, marble-clad, wet bar and into the enormous living room. king sized, mahogany bed.

Recreation Options
Royal Plan guests receive complimentary activities, fees may apply for guests on the European Plan. Activities include the use of two lighted tennis courts; paddle boats, Hobie Waves, Aqua Trikes, windsurfers, kayaks, sailboats, and snorkeling gear; and scuba-diving trips and beginner lessons. Guests also receive a special golf deal: greens fee of $70 per person per 18 holes, transportation provided. Not included, but available, are PADI-certification (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), and open-dive courses. In addition to day/night tennis, a 24-hour fitness center, Hobie Cats, glass-bottom boats, croquet, billiards, one pool and one whirlpool, other recreational activities listed below are available at or near the resort; fees may apply.
Resort Policies
- Children under 18 years are not allowed.
- All guests pay adult rate. Two adults are included in the rate.
- Photo identification and credit card or cash deposit are required upon check-in for incidental charges.
- All special requests are subject to availability upon check-in. Limited number of rooms with double beds.
- Airport departure tax of $27 is not included.
- All enclosed areas are designated as non-smoking. Smoking is only allowed in open areas and designated smoking rooms
- Please be prepared to pay a mandatory $10 government fee at the airport
- The hotel has a 100% cancellation, no show, and short stay penalty. Because unforeseen circumstances arise, travel insurance is strongly recommended.
- All Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation resorts are nonsmoking in any enclosed areas. Examples are bars, restaurants, lobbies, conference facilities, retail facilities, and nightclubs.
- Smoking is permitted in all open areas and designated rooms.
- Upon check-in, guests will be asked to tender a credit card to activate their room folio. All purchases (except those paid for with a credit card) at resort outlets will be signed to the room folio. Cash will not be accepted for incidental charges at any resort outlet.
- If a credit card is unavailable, a cash deposit must be left at the front desk/concierge in order to activate the room folio. Travelers’ checks will be treated like cash and therefore can only be used at the front desk.
